Will Harlow is pursuing a Master’s degree in Urban Planning at Columbia GSAPP. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at Colorado College, designing an interdisciplinary curriculum integrating psychology, philosophy, and psychoanalysis. After working as a growth marketer for financial technology startups, he transitioned to urban planning to pursue his interests in community development, equitable urban design, and inclusive public spaces. Before graduate school, Will gained experience with community-led initiatives, volunteering with Transportation Alternatives on the Avenue B Open Street campaign, which he now co-leads, and with the Loisaida Open Streets Community Coalition. He also supported organizations including Open Space Sandbox, a Philadelphia-based open space planning startup, and New Yorkers for Transportation Equity, a statewide coalition of transportation advocacy groups. At Columbia, his research has focused on equitable development in transportation, infrastructure, and housing. Through the Community Planning Fellowship, Will aims to apply his skills in mapping, analytics, and design to support local New York City organizations and Community Boards. His experience in advocacy, research, and community engagement informs his commitment to creating accessible, resilient, and inclusive urban spaces that strengthen neighborhoods and improve quality of life for residents.
