Bio
Raised in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, in a family devoted to science, Brittany Beck grew up surrounded by the spirit of inquiry. Her father, a chemist, and her mother, a radiology and nuclear medicine technologist, sparked an early fascination with experimentation and discovery. While studying biology at Truman State University, Brittany discovered her true calling—not in medicine, but in teaching—while working as a chemistry lab assistant. She went on to earn a master’s in science education and gain national perspective as a policy intern in the U.S. Department of Education’s STEM office.
Since joining High School of Telecommunication Arts and Technology in 2012, Brittany has become a transformative force in science education. She creates classrooms alive with curiosity, where students design experiments, debate evidence, and experience the joy of discovery. Under her leadership, AP Biology enrollment has grown and passing rates rose by 22 percent from 2023 to 2024. Her hallmark is creativity—whether students are “speed dating” as cell organelles, conducting mealworm experiments on microplastics, or taking ecology nature walks. Beyond her classroom, Brittany helped develop the New Visions Biology curriculum, adopted citywide in 2024, and ensures that AP Biology reflects the diversity of her school community.
Colleagues describe her as visionary and rigorous; students call her inspiring. Through her inventive lessons and unrelenting belief in every learner’s potential, Brittany Beck transforms science from a subject into a living, empowering experience, making her a truly distinguished educator.
