Celebrating SMART: 25 Years of BIPOC/Women-led Health Equity

• 1 Minutes

SMART, a Fund for the City of New York Partner Project, will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2023. This is a tremendous milestone for the women-led group. It was founded in 1998 to support women living with HIV/AIDS, and expanded in 2005 to serve youth. Although it’s a small nonprofit, SMART has been able to flexibly and effectively respond to the ever-changing needs of the women and adolescents it serves. SMART’s strength is born from its commitment to its mission: to give participants accurate and current information that leads to better treatment, health, nutrition, and well-being.

In January 2023, SMART Health will debut as an exciting new project focused on offering up-to-date health resources and information through community engagement. The initiative grew out of SMART’s work over the past few years addressing health equity issues, COVID-19, and MPV/monkey pox in East & Central Harlem. SMART is a trusted community resource, so this new project is likely to have significant impact.

SMART has been a Fund Partner Project since 2008. To learn more about SMART and their initiatives, visit their website.
