Hawaiʻi Conference: From Margin to Center offers participants an immersive opportunity to engage directly with the pressing issues affecting Native Hawaiians. Our goal is to provide both cultural and historical context, allowing participants to gain a deeper understanding of the ongoing efforts to improve conditions on the island. By supporting local Hawaiian organizations doing impactful work, we aim to center key topics such as mental health, housing, education, and workforce development, with a particular focus on Native Hawaiian youth.
In addition, the conference will feature curated sessions by honorable guest speakers as well as a Book Conversation on Working for a Future: Equity and Access in Workforce Development for Young People by Dr. Lisette Nieves, Dr. Noel Anderson, and Dr. Becca Huntting. Chapter 3 of this book spotlights the educational paths and career choices of young Native Hawaiians from Honolulu Community College. Our goal is to create a respectful learning experience that honors Native Hawaiians while celebrating their accomplishments.
