The Fund for the City of New York is proud to host a special fireside chat Joy L. Bivins, Director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.
As the first woman to lead the Schomburg Center in its 95-year history, Bivins has dedicated her career to preserving Black cultural heritage and expanding public access to archives and history. Her leadership builds on decades of experience across cultural institutions, from the Chicago History Museum to Rare Book School at the University of Virginia. Her commitment to making history accessible and relevant continues to inspire both scholars and the broader community.
This fireside chat will highlight the importance of cultural stewardship, education, and equity in shaping a more empowered New York City. Together, Fun President, Dr. Lisette Nieves, and Bivins will reflect on their shared vision of fostering community strength through knowledge, innovation, and collaboration.
Join us as we celebrate trailblazing leadership and explore the role of cultural institutions in addressing today’s challenges and opportunities.
