About the Book

The story begins in Staten Island, where the Ramirez women—Jessica, Nina, and their mother, Dolores—have each been marked by the absence of thirteen-year-old Ruthy, who vanished after a track practice.

Twelve years later, a glimmer of hope surfaces in an unlikely scenario—on a reality TV show where a contestant with a striking resemblance to Ruthy appears. This sighting sets off a series of events that pull the Ramirez women out of their individual struggles and into a collective journey towards possibly finding Ruthy.

The road trip to find Ruthy becomes a pivotal moment for each of them, forcing them to confront their memories and hopes. The narrative beautifully weaves together themes of familial bonds, generational violence, colonialism, race, and the price of silence.
