Partner Project Highlight: Grandparents Day

• 1 Minutes

Happy Grandparents Day!

Here are two partner projects that are working hard to make sure seniors are living their best lives.

Sharethecaregiving

Aging. Illness. Disability. Everyone, at some point in life, will be touched by the need to be a family caregiver.

Since 1995, Share The Care™, an evidence-informed model/guidebook, has been providing a comprehensive plan of action to unite friends, relatives, neighbors and colleagues into a caregiving team to provide emotional, social and practical support for someone they know in need of assistance no matter the circumstances.

Unforgettables Chorus

The Unforgettables is a chorus made up of individuals with dementia and their family members and friends. The first-of-its-kind chorus was founded in 2011 by Dr. Mary Mittelman, a research professor of psychiatry and rehabilitative medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center.

The choristers commit to weekly rehearsals and regular performances. A pilot study demonstrated that participation improved quality of life and social support for all participants and suggests that people in the early to middle stage of dementia and their family members and friends can enjoy and learn from rehearsing and performing in concerts that also engage the wider community.
