Ben Verde is pursuing a Master’s in Urban Planning at Hunter College, concentrating on transportation, infrastructure, and public space design. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from SUNY Purchase and spent five years reporting in New York City, covering transportation systems, housing, land use, and real estate development. His early internship with Streetsblog New York City introduced him to grassroots activism and the movement for safer streets, sparking a lasting interest in participatory planning and community engagement. As a graduate student, Ben has served as a research assistant on a five-year study examining the impact of new YMCA locations on both the built and social environments in The Bronx. He also supports mobility and infrastructure projects across the city through his work with EA Creative, a transportation engineering and planning firm, contributing to data collection, policy recommendations, and project coordination. Drawing from his background in journalism, research, and planning, Ben is dedicated to creating equitable, sustainable urban environments that strengthen neighborhood connectivity, social cohesion, and civic life. He aims to continue improving transportation access, public space design, and community engagement throughout New York City, fostering livable and inclusive neighborhoods.
